Fabric Clutch

I made this clutch during another lovely workshop. Workshops are great! You always learn neat tricks and you get to go home with a fantastic (and finished!) project by the end of the day :)

Choose two pieces of fabric, one for the outside and one for the lining. The pattern has a simple envelope shape about 30x30cm and 10 cm for the flap.

Cut out the pattern from both fabrics and sew them together. Always put the 'good' sides of the fabrics (the side that you want to show) facing each other. Leave 3 cm (about 1 inch) at the tip of the flap unsewn and use this to turn the bag right side out. Now fold the envelope and sew 0.5 cm around the edge. Choose a thread in a contrasting color for an interesting detail.

Before sewing the tip of the flap, push in one end of the thread and then sew it shut. Hand stitch a button on the flap.

Use a long piece of string and wrap it around the bag a few times. Wrap it around the button to close.

Or you can make a knotted detail at the end of the string. Start by making a loose loop that will fit over the button. Then loop the free end of the string around it and push the end through the loop that you just created. It will look like a pretzel. Pull this taught and repeat. I hope this makes sense, it is pretty hard to explain this without knowing the names of the knots :P

When you reach the end, put a bit of glue on the string; this will keep it from unraveling.

And tuck it underneath the knots.
